It seems that when a movie with dark themes is marketed for mainstream appeal that the “horror” description goes out the window in favor of “suspense,” “mystery,” or “thriller.”
There are lots of movies that are billed as “thrillers,” which are, in my opinion, horror movies, telling horror stories at their cores.
