  1. I JUST found your podcast today, and I’ve listened to your intro and “First Kiss.” I wish my Google-fu had been better so I would have found you ages ago when I was looking for exactly this. I’m donating $10 – right now I’m pretty broke, but I thought I’d shoot you something to show my appreciation. I’m a literature buff, but I find the world-building and back stories to horror to be more fulfilling than any other genera than sci-fi. I’m also a minor student of murder ballads and am anxiously looking to see if you have any episodes about them. Anyway, thank you for having this podcast! I’m very excited to get to know it and you.

(P.S. – my first kiss was the movie version of War of the Worlds. I couldn’t grasp why aliens would want to destroy us to take our land if it meant destroying the land, too. My father watched it with me [I was five at the time] and when I started to freak out, he re-wound the tape to show me how you could JUST see the strings on the models of the alien machines. Even as a 40-year-old woman I still sometimes look to see those strings when I re-watch that movie.)

    • Hi Tazzy, thank you SO much for your kind words, and your support for Hellbent for Horror. I do appreciate it, and your enthusiasm means so much. It is gratifying to know that the show connects with people. This podcast might be a great match for your interests! Episode 010- “The Restless Interval” discusses Murder Ballads (Episode 019 has a playlist with a few as well), and Episode 017 “Taboo Texts: Horror in Literature” might also interest you. And, Episode 032 “You will be Assimilated” discusses the hybrids of Sci-Fi and Horror. If it’s okay with you, I’d like to read your “First Kiss” on an upcoming episode. Thanks again, and I hope you continue to enjoy the show!

  2. You are more than welcome to read my “first kiss” story any time. I’m going through your podcast episodes sequentially because I am finding out SO many things I love. I just finished listening to “The Gods of Monsters” and wanted to recommend a YouTube Channel to you: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnZz6TEZNfcSi5ghUndgygw

I don’t know these folks personally, but they’re called ElliMacs and there’s a gentleman makeup artist named Mac and a young lady named Elli who wears a lot of the fantastic designs. I enjoy their work quite a lot, which is funny because I’m not into makeup myself (I have terrible allergies to latex rubber and can’t come in contact with it without a serious reaction). They do a beautiful job and it’s very interesting to see how much cotton goes into making what looks like a horrific monster.

I’ve got a tiny story for you, strictly for your entertainment, and I hope it gives you a chuckle. I was too scared to watch The Exorcist when I was young but finally saw it when I was 15. At a lock-in at my Church. There’s something about watching The Exorcist with two priests, a nun, an acolyte, an altar girl, and six other teens in your Church basement that makes the whole thing very surreal. (And yes, Father Joseph fast-forwarded through the Crucifix scene.)

Your website is lovely and you have an excellent voice for this job. Not only do you make the subject of each podcast interesting, you also make it personal. I really do feel like we’re having a conversation about the genera. I’m so happy to be here and promise never to bother you without your permission again. Have a wonderful day and keep up the wonderful work!
